Dal rifugio, si può sentire la vita quotiduana di una colonia di foche: un'isola con spiagge di ghiaia, alcune rocce, onde e un sacco di attività. C'è chi risolve delle controversie, i giovani vengono alimentati, e c'è la concorrenza per catturare i pesci, in particolare quando le balene e i delfini appaiono nelle secche... Questo è molto più di un semplice abbaiare di foche. Si ha la sensazione reale di essere sulla spiaggia, circondati dalla natura.
